In 515 BC the professional core of the the Persian Empire Army under the rule of the Achaemendid King, "Darius The Great" was the famed "Ten Thousand Immortals" whose ranks of intensively trained remarkably responsive and mobile forces included archers, spearmen, light and heavy cavalrymen and 1,000 strong of the elite royal bodyguard.
